Quixotic quest Speaking at a news-media availability Wednesday, Sen. Gayle Slossberg, D-Milford, and Rep. Russ Morin, D-Wethersfield, co-chairs of the legislature's Government Administration and Elections Committee, announced their support for an amendment to the federal Constitution that would overturn the U.S. Supreme Court's 2010 decision in the case of Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission. They and more than 100 other legislators have penned a letter encouraging Connecticut's congressional delegation to support such an amendment. Sen. Slossberg and Rep. Morin would make better use of their time by making sure Connecticut's elections system is functioning at a high level, since this year's U.S. Senate race is the first statewide general election since the chaotic 2010 gubernatorial race. Besides, the constitutionality of such an amendment is questionable to say the least.
